Frequently Asked Questions

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar) level either due to inadequate insulin production or because the body’s cell does not respond properly to insulin or both. It describes a metabolic disorder of multiple etiology characterized by chronic hyperglycemia with disturbances of carbohydrate, fat (dyslipidemia) and protein metabolism resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Your pancreas- an organ, located between your stomach & spine, that helps with digestion-releases a hormone it makes, called insulin, into your blood. Insulin helps your blood carry glucose to all your body cells. Sometimes your body doesn’t make enough insulin or the insulin doesn’t work the way it should. Glucose then stays in your blood & doesn’t reach your cells. Your blood glucose levels get too high & can cause diabetes or pre-diabetes. Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause health problem.

The main symptoms of diabetes are:

  • Polyuria: Frequently urinating (more at night)
  • Polydipsia: Feeling very thirsty
  • Weakness, very tired, dry & itchy skin.
  • Weigh loss & Muscle loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Feeling of pins, burning in your feet.
  • Cut wounds or any wounds heal slowly

Some people with diabetes don’t have any of these signs or symptoms.

The only way to confirm if you have diabetes - blood test.

The clinical diagnosis of diabetes is often prompted by symptoms such as increased thirst & urination and recurrent infections.

Blood Tests: Fasting plasma glucose, Postprandial test (two hours) and oral glucose tolerance test are done to know blood glucose levels.

Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1C) be used to diagnose diabetes.

Diabetes can be diagnosed by blood glucose and HbA1C levels:

  • A glycated Hemoglobin test, which is commonly referred to as an HbA1C or simply A1c test. This test measures the body average blood sugar levels from the past three months. An HbA1C of 6.5% or higher is considered diabetes, if 5.7% to 6.4% is considered pre-diabetes and under 5.7% is considered as normal.
  • A fasting plasma glucose test, which measures the body glucose level after fasting for eight hours. The test results of 125mg/dl or greater indicates a positive diagnosis of diabetes. Between 90-100mg/dl is normal.
  • A oral glucose tolerance test, which measures the body blood glucose levels two hours after intake of 75gm of glucose. The result of 200mg/dl or greater indicates diabetes positive.
  • In some cases, with classic symptoms of hyperglycemia, random plasma glucose test with a result of 200mg/dl or greater indicates diabetes positive.

High blood sugar levels are associated with Type-2 diabetes and increases the risk of developing several medical complications. Following,

  • Heart, Brain and Blood Vessels problems
  • Nerve damages
  • Kidney damages
  • Eye damages
  • Delayed wound healing or leads to amputation
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Depression or Diabetes distress

Maintaining an HbA1C 6.0% or lower, with the elimination of glycemic control medications (except from metformin). To achieve reversal, user have to adhere fully to Dr. Wealthily recommended protocol’s for over a period of 12 months or more (depending upon the existing conditions). Metformin is excluded from these reversal criteria because it is not only for diabetes- many patients who are advised by experts to stay on this drug for other reason than blood sugar control.

  • The terms “reversal” and “cure” mean very different things.
  • Type-2 diabetes can be “reversed” but not “cured” because the it will come back if long-term behavior change is not successfully maintained.
  • There are still Several points of debate around the term “reversal” in particular, how long HbA1C and medication reduction success have to last for diabetes to be considered reversed.
  • Since diabetes reversal is relatively new term, there is no universally accepted definition by the scientific community or American diabetes or medical association. Even, many medical professionals are still unaware that reversal is possible.
